Fall 2011 Collection in NYC |
During the 2011 Park Avenue Fashion Week, I was honored to meet Joy Cioci and some of her team. What a down to earth, sweet girl! And WHOA, her collections are out of this world! My personal favorites are the dresses she creates, so romantic and elegant.
When asked if she'd do an interview for my personal blog....she smiled and said "of course." I'm so impressed and inspired by Ms. Cioci. Her creativeness, the way she is so down to earth and seems to me like everyone just loves her!! A rising star in the making for SURE!
I hope you enjoy this interview, and be on the look out for her Spring 2012 collections!!!
Shel: What inspires you the most as a designer?
Joy Cioci: The way I can make the customer feel will always be what matters most. I get a great sense of fulfillment when my clothes can evoke something in a woman so that she feels sexy, romantic or empowered.
S: What was the inspiration behind your Spring 2012 collection?
JC:One of my close girlfriends just traveled the world for a year, so she inspired my vision of a free-spirited woman traveling in seek of adventure and love. I wanted to create a versatile collection with effortlessly luxe pieces that embrace this woman's zest for every sphere of life.
S: Who is your biggest inspiration in the fashion world?
JC: Tom Ford. I interned for Gucci while he was there. I was inspired by the branding, design aesthetic and detail involved in everything.
S: If you could only design ONE piece of clothing over and over....which piece would you choose?? (ie: shirt, skirt, blouse...??) Why??
JC: Dresses. So versatile to dress up or down and can be worn day and night.
S: This may sound cliche' but we want to know... who is your favorite designer RIGHT NOW...besides you!?
JC:Phoebe Philo for Celine; she truly sculpts the fashion world and keeps it on its toes. Philo creates identities for brands. Stella McCartney and Chloe wouldn't be where they are today were it not for her.
S: Which of the fashion weeks are your favorite?? NYC/LA/Paris?
JC: New York City. My showroom is located in the heart of Soho, with my ateliers in Midtown. Presenting at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York streamlines everything, committing my loyalty as a NYC brand and my love of this inspiring city I call home.
S: What would be your best piece o advice for up and coming designers?
JC: If you know exactly what you want, you can achieve it. I am living proof!
